Ibsen Museum

Henrik Ibsen, popularly known as the ‘world's most famous playwright after William Shakespeare’ lived in a home in Oslo for the last 11 years of his life, which was later converted to the Ibsen Museum or Ibsenmuseet locally. Whether you’re a literature enthusiast or not, add this museum to your itinerary as you can learn about the life of the legend and marvel at some of the important artefacts here.
The museum in Oslo is one of the three museums dedicated to Ibsen in Norway. When Ibsen’s wife died in 1914, some of the items were taken from here and placed at the Norwegian Folk Museum. Only in the 90s, there was a massive drive to restore the house and fill it with important exhibits of Ibsen’s life. The Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs funded the drive. Ibsen’s family also volunteered and donated a lot of items. For the 100-year commemoration ceremony of Ibsen's death in 2006, the organizers had retained the original interiors, colours, and décor of the home to give an authentic feel of the era. During a guided tour, you can go through all these exhibits that tell you about Ibsen's life and works. Most tours conducted here will be walking/biking tours with stops at all major landmarks in the nearby vicinity, including the Ibsen Museum, the Royal Palace, the Karl Johan’s Gate, etc.
