Vettakollen

Vettakollen is a neighbourhood on a hilly terrain in the Vestre Aker borough in Oslo. The peak measures 419 meters above sea level but is inhabited with a population of around 7,600 people. Hiking tours around the peak are popular here during the warmer days.
Located between Holmenkollen and Sognsvann, Vettakollen is mostly a residential area built around the peak. It derives its name from the Norwegian word varde, which means beacon because, in the olden times, this hill was used to set up beacons as an alarm system. You can take metro number 1 to Vettakollen station, walk for a few minutes, and reach the base of the hiking trails. From the higher altitudes of Vettakollen, you are guaranteed panoramic views of Oslo if you go on a hiking trip to the top. The trails around this area are well-maintained, wide, and safe for hikers of all levels of experience. The top of the peak is an ideal spot to witness sunsets and sunrises in Oslo with your family and friends.
